“The Sound of Art”

July 28th, 2008 · 4 Comments

The Creative Art Society has a new show that will be installed this week entitled “The Sound of Art” and I’ve been thinking for a couple of months that I wanted to try to paint something to music. I’m not very familiar with abstract art, but there are pieces I like, although I could never explain why. So I painted this while listening to my favorite belly dance album – Dream Dancer by Light Rain. It’s a beautiful album that has been around since 1993.

The primary song is “Dervish” and you can hear it on the link here ~ Dream Dancer

Thank you, Joanna – these colors were very difficult to photograph, so it’s not quite the right colors. Not sure I will do any more abstracts, but it was fun to try.

This painting had me looking at it for quite a while. At first I thought of it as the reflections of something red in water, but then some of the red bits were “standing up” against the direction of the water, so made me look harder at them. I had the thought of them being like notes on a page of music. Maybe I was influenced by seeing your title, The Sound Of Art. I’ll bet it was exhilarating to paint this!

I was thinking of the writing in Arabic or something floating along with the music. I like what Susan said about the notes. Trying an abstract was a great idea. Seems like you had fun.
