Art Practice – pencil sketches

March 17th, 2009 · 4 Comments

I keep telling myself that if I want to improve as an artist, I need to practice.  Every piece won’t be a “keeper”.  So I try to draw whenever I have time.  Also, I intend to occasionally copy art that I like, not to sell but to improve my skills.  So I won’t be working on composition or even color, but I will be working on technique.  Today, a friend and I spent a while sketching – we limited our time to 10 minutes on each piece:

I love your sketches. Nice hatching and lines. Especially the pear.

i like the bottle drawing but it needs a cast shadow the shadow that happens when light appears through the bottle and needs a little more vale changes but that is very nice i would hang it in an art museum if i worked in one

Trish – Thank you – if you do a search for drawing or pencil on this site, it will show all of the pencil sketches I’ve posted and maybe one of these would be of help.

Shannon – You are right about the cast shadow – these sketches were done with varying degrees of detail. I’m not familiar with the term “vale” in relation to art
