Enough about my art… what do you think of my art?

November 16th, 2009 · 2 Comments

The last couple of months have been spent enjoying the time I could spare creating art while wondering, yet again, why we do art – especially during slow economic times when not many people seem to be interested in buying what we spend so much time planning, drawing, painting, judging..
And the very complex, intricate, convoluted [...]

Hello to Manx

September 29th, 2009 · 2 Comments

Being a long-time computer user – I did key punch in the 70’s and bought my first computer in 1983  (Yes, a Commodore 64) – I am still a very unsophisticated rube incapable of being blasé about the Internet.
I think it is a fantastic and amazing library where I can instantly – and usually for [...]

Here is one I found today –
Andrea Joseph’s sketchblog
Wonderful, wonderful sketches.
And I found Andrea through
Rose Welty
who also loves to paint, draw and figured out [...]

Bathing Bunting

July 6th, 2009 · 2 Comments

Back from my nephew’s wedding in North Carolina, and loaded up with work for the next month or two. I don’t know if I’ll find time for painting until September. But I saw a bunting yesterday and couldn’t find a camera in time. I thought they only came in the spring. I did get a [...]

Doing what you love.

May 20th, 2009 · 3 Comments

One artist who regularly posts some excellent and helpful pieces is Rose Welty.  She had a great article on doing art every day, even if for just ten minutes.  (Read post here) One of the things I like about that idea is that it reminds us, every day, that whatever else we may be [...]

Draw, Plant, Save, Donate, Appreciate a Tree

April 22nd, 2009 · 2 Comments

Wherever you live, you probably enjoy
the shade and scent and beauty of a tree.

When I leave home and drive in any direction, there are new neighborhoods emerging – in an incredibly short time span – from the freshly razed ground.  Mature trees are now heaped into scrap piles around the perimeter.
With the construction of most [...]

Tree Shadows, Sun Bokeh, Tres Amigas Botanical

March 30th, 2009 · 2 Comments

I had a lot of fun last weekend at the Zilker Park Botanical Festival, sharing a “Botanical Art” booth with two other artists.  We discussed many things, art among them, and met a lot of nice people.  For a while, I tried to draw a tree, but the sun coming through the crape myrtle behind [...]

Sunflowers, Sunny Friends

February 24th, 2009 · 4 Comments

We had a great day painting pastels of a beautiful bouquet brought by new friend Sue from Michigan and my friend Jo from Bastrop. We traded pastel tips and encouraging words while sipping Starbucks.  Life is good.
